School buses are safe for children or not?

  1. Per CNN, the answer to whether school buses are safe or not is superlative. The national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) gives the following statistics, 30,000 people are killed in traffic crashes per annum, however, only six school age children die as passengers in buses per annum.

According to the National Coalition for School Bus Safety (NCSBS) large buses behave differently than cars. What passengers feel during a school bus accident is going to significantly less forceful than what the experience during a car accident.

However, seatbelt advocates say that current safety measures are not enough.

7 of 10 real world accidents aren’t frontal, when it comes to side impact and rollover accidents NCSBS says compartmentalization is less effective and that seat belts are essential to saving lives.

But in this citizens opinion, I believe school buses have always been safe enough, and before we spend a bunch of money on seat belts, we should look more carefully at who we are hiring to drive our children to and from school.
